I did not discover how to get in shape until my early forties.

It was knee surgery at 34 that made me realize I was not as healthy as I thought I was.

I had just finished getting my second black belt, and was physically active at least five days a week. But I was only running and jumping without any strength training. I was definitely “fit”, but not strong and my knee took the brunt of it.

Five years later I started weight training and then HIIT workouts and it changed everything.

For the first time in my life I was able to put on muscle and learned how to train each region of my body so I could safely continue playing the sports I enjoyed.

Now that I’m over 50, I know the importance of staying active to help keep my body and mind strong as I age. I’ve also discovered how to make it fun, and hope to pass that joy on to you!

Some of the activities I enjoy now that I’m in my 50s:

I play Nationals-level ultimate on both grass and sand. A typical tournament weekend involves around 24 miles of running.

I referee for the AUDL, a pro ultimate league. I easily cover 4-6 miles a game.

Fitness challenges and mud runs.

Daily walks with my fiancee and dog.

Singing in a Celtic band called Banna.
